Work in Progress

I have been making very gradual progress on my website, in the form of fixing details in its design. I installed Google Fonts and changed the titles to slightly different fonts, which I think emulates a newspaper or digest magazine, which was what I wanted to evoke with my design. I changed the formatting of content pages, and differentiate blog posts from POSIEL work (with a plugin that allows posts to be hidden from certain pages), to be more tidy and aesthetically appealing. I’ve been making more adjustments each week, including adding excerpts to my displayed posts on content pages (previously the entire body of text was displayed), and altering the lettering spacing on text following Charlie Zha’s presentation. Much of this progress began and has continued to be done with the help of a classmate who has investigated issues I was having and gave me tips about different features. I’ve also got design inspiration from looking at my peers’ websites. When thinking about digital and information literacy, I think a well-organized website is important for helping users navigate content easily. Designing my own website from the ground up has also made me think about the usefulness of learning about web design, plugins, and useability to my own digital literacy. Understanding the different ways that online content can be organized helps democratize online activity, including seeking out information.
