I’m still in the most basic stage of setting up my blog, having only created a few pages and enough functionality to access them, along with a simple aesthetic. I started out with some technical difficulty that prevented me from even accessing my domain, and then had to catch up with creating pages and making it functional. Much of this was achieved with the help of a classmate, who advised me on how to troubleshoot and then gave an overview of the different components of the blog (templates, pages, blocks, patterns). They also gave me recommendations of plugins to use for various functions, such as:

The first I installed was One Click Accessibility, because accessibility should be a priority for the blog and installing this helps provide it, with essentially no effort on my part. I’m entirely new and inexperienced at any web design/editing, but the most basic functions I was able to figure out pretty intuitively in addition to the advice from my classmate. (I even looked at their process post and got recommendations for videos explaining the basic setup of WordPress.) This amounted to creating new pages, putting posts on them, and linking all these to the right menu items. I also chose to link my email to encourage potential correspondence from blog viewers (but not my Instagram which I’m not active on and consider to be unrelated to anything I’m trying to achieve with this blog), and my Letterboxd account because it is another platform for my thoughts on movies and could promote engagement. I settled on the general aesthetic for my blog by trying out different colour schemes, looking to my classmates’ blogs for inspiration, as well as Pinterest for images and cinema-related aesthetics. It is only an early, undeveloped iteration of my vision board, but the blog is working towards having a concrete aesthetic integrated into its web design.
