Mapping it Out

I intend for my website to have a very basic, minimalistic style; this is partly because I have no experience in web design and want to manage my expectations, but also because I like the idea of it and think it’s fitting for a writing-based blog (as opposed to a visual arts one, where more eye-catching design elements might make more sense). I’m basing my design format off of what I’ve enjoyed about my peers’ websites, and aesthetic influences I’ve found in other media. I like the idea of a static homepage with little or no content, where links to the different components of the website will live. The homepage is an introduction to the aesthetic of the website and what lives in it. I have a top bar directing users to my About page, the actual blog posts, and Pub 101 content. I want to differentiate Pub 101 content from the main blog posts because the website is meant to be devoted to my movie discussion blogging, but Pub 101 content is required so I keep it in its own section. Every element is meant to be kept in its own ‘box’, so posts within a category are also listed with excerpts, and have to be clicked on to reach the actual post. My simplistic and minimalist approach is meant to keep it organized, and emulate the kind of text-focused magazine or scholarly journal that I was inspired by.
